Tallahassee, Fla. – The Everglades Trust (Trust) today issued the following statement, attributed to its CEO Anna Upton, regarding Governor Ron DeSantis announcing his budget recommendations for Florida’s one-of-a-kind environment and his intent to partner with the federal government to expedite Everglades restoration projects on their behalf.
“I’m thrilled to support Governor DeSantis’ historic commitment to funding Everglades restoration.
“Governor DeSantis understands that Florida’s economy depends on clean water, and since Day One, he has been laser focused on delivering results for Floridians.
“He also challenged the South Florida Water Management District to expedite Everglades restoration, and I’m proud to say the district rose to that challenge. They are the best ‘local sponsor’ for water projects in the entire country.
“He made a promise when he came into office to do all that he could to advance restoration, and he has made good on that promise.
“We look forward to working with the Florida Legislature and Congress to provide the funding needed to keep the historic momentum going, allowing us to leave America’s Everglades to the next generation better than it is today.”
