DeSantis lauds environmental successes, wants more control of federal funding for Everglades restoration

DeSantis, who said Thursday during a media availability in Juno Beach that he was meeting with Trump later that evening, lauded the state’s achievements under his leadership in getting more clean water to Florida’s storied but embattled River of Grass, and said he believes the state can more efficiently complete projects to further restoration.

The governor is recommending $805 million be earmarked in the 2025-26 fiscal year budget for environmental projects. That’s on top of about $6.5 billion that has been approved since DeSantis took office in 2019.

“The progress has been unlike anything we have ever seen in the history of Everglades restoration,” said Everglades Trust CEO Anna Upton.
