Everglades Trust Statement on Governor’s State of the State Address

Tallahassee, Fla. – Following the State of the State address from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the Everglades Trust (Trust) today released the following statement, attributed to its CEO Anna Upton, recognizing Governor DeSantis’ dedication to restoring America’s Everglades.

“The unprecedented and accelerated progress on Everglades restoration has become synonymous with Governor DeSantis and his tenure as Governor of the great state of Florida.

“It’s one of his crowning achievements. He made a funding pledge at the start of each of his terms and exceeded the first by almost $1 billion and is set to surpass the second pledge if his budget recommendation is fulfilled.

“If this request is fully funded, Governor DeSantis will have secured nearly $9.5 billion for environmental efforts during his two terms, which will be the largest state investment in Everglades and water quality and more progress on Everglades restoration projects than any other governor in Florida’s history.

“Importantly, the budget request provides full funding for the state of Florida’s portion of the EAA Reservoir, allowing the ‘Crown Jewel’ of Everglades restoration to be completed five years ahead of schedule under a historic agreement with the U.S. Army in July 2025.

“Because of this historic funding and progress, Floridians have already seen, and will continue to see, the real results of the world’s largest ecosystem restoration effort.”
